TriTown Cub Scout Pack 13 - Outside Fun and More!

TriTown Cub Scout Pack 13 is committed to helping the boys and girls kindergarten to grade 5 in the towns of Chester, Deep River and Essex, CT learn about the outdoors, develop into good citizens, learn about how the world around them works while having fun. As a Family Pack, parents and siblings are always welcome.
Please take a look through our site & contact us if you want to discuss joining.

Please email us at tritownpack13@gmail.com and let us know your name, your child's grade in the fall and which school they will attend - we check the email daily and will respond promptly.

Our Join Cub Scout night Pack Meeting will be Thursday September 16, 2021 7-8pm at the Deep River Congregational Church Horseshoe Field.  We're having Field Games and Awards Ceremony - come play and meet the pack!

Why join Cub Scouts?

Welcome Parents & Guardians,
A Gift:
If you could give one gift to the children in your life that would require no picking up to clean around and could stay with them as they grow, what would it be?  No matter what your family situation is, it is within your power to help these children grown into people with a good feeling about themselves and a genuine concern for others.  Cub Scouting, can assist you with providing this great gift to them.
Belonging and Fun:
Cub Scout age children benefit developmentally from belonging to a small group of peers.  Your child will be part of a den, a small group of Cub Scouts in the same grade level from our 3 town elementary schools and beyond.  Through this sense of belonging, children build self-esteem and learn to get along with others.
Wholesome Stuff:
As a parent/guardian, you want to be assured that the groups your child joins will help teach values consistent with good citizenship, character development, personal fitness, and leadership.  The values we seek to instill are found in the Scout Oath, Scout Law and Cub Scout Motto.

We know that kids do not join Cub Scouting for character building.  Kids join because its fun and to do things with their friends.  You child will learn great lessons, but will be far too busy having fun to notice all they are learning along the way.

We Are the Cub Scouts! #scoutingisopen

2020-21 School Year was a challenge for all - We rose to the challenge

If you're looking for a fun activity for your child and family to become involved in Look what we did in 2020-21!
Our Leaders are hard at work this summer getting ready for the 2021-22 School Year with fun things to help the Cub Scouts grow into leaders - and of course we will be outside as much as possible!
Pack 13 puts the Outing in Scouting!!

We're New To Cub Scouts-How does it work?

 How Does Cub Scouting Work?

In Cub Scouting, you and your family join in on the program fun with your child, and you will help them along the way.  Cub Scouts have a different handbook at each grade level, with adventures that are age-appropriate for the developmental level.  As your child advances through these books by working on adventures at den meetings or at home with you, they will earn advancement belt loops, pins or patches of recognition that they wear on their uniform.  As your child grows in Cub Scouting, your role will change with them, from hands-on involvement to guiding and coaching.  Your child’s success in Cub Scouting depends on you!

The Cub Scout program takes place at two levels.  Your child will be part of a DEN, a small group of Cub Scouts in the same grade level. A den typically meets twice a month, although some may meet more often.  All dens, from kindergarten to 5thgrade, make up a PACK.  Once a month, the dens, with their families, come together at the Pack Meeting and Cub Scouts are recognized for the adventures and the awards they have earned.

Dens

The Lion (Kindergarten) and Tiger(First Grade Dens

Cub Scouts who join in kindergarten or first grade join and participate with an adult partner, usually the parent or guardian.  An adult is selected to serve as the Den Leader (ideally one of the parents volunteers) and coordinates the meetings.  Each adult partner takes a turn assisting or hosting the meetings and activities with the den leader.  This shared leadership model is a great way to endure the Den leader has the help needed to deliver a quality program for the Cub Scouts.  At den meetings, Lions and Tigers work on adventures that are found in their handbooks.  They also attend the pack meetings with their families.

The Wolf (Second Grade) and Bear(Third Grade) Dens:

Children this age are becoming more independent, and activities are designed to meet their developmental needs.  A Wolf (2nd grade) or Bear (3rdgrade) den will have a Den Leader and an Assistant Den Leader (ideally parents of the den members)  We also strive to have a Den Chief available (an older Scout from the local troop who helps the den leader and scouts.  Typically Wolf and Bear Dens meet twice a month at a regularly scheduled time and place where they work on adventures that are found in their handbooks. They also attend the pack meetings with their families.

The Webelos Scout (Fourth Grade) and Arrow Of Light (Fifth Grade)  Dens:

Cub Scouts who are in Webelos and Arrow of Light Dens also meet twice a month with their Den Leader and Assistant Den Leader(parent volunteers) to work on adventures that are found in their handbooks, but there is more emphasis on learning to take on leadership roles and preparing them to join a Scout Troop. They also attend the pack meetings with their families.

What did Pack 13 do in 2020-2021? #scoutingisopen

WE STAYED OPEN!
We all worked hard to keep offering the Cub Scout Program to the boys and girls in Chester, Deep River and Essex CT (kindergarten-grade 5). Meetings looked a little different - some were outside, some held on hikes and during campouts and some via Zoom - but as a pack we Did Our Best and kept on going - and the children HAD FUN learning!

This year the Cub Scouts earned:
189 Adventure Beltloops Awards
43 Webelos/Arrow of Light Adventure Pin Awards
3 Religious Emblems Awards
13 STEM-NOVA Awards
10 Cub Scout World Conservation Awards
9 Whittling Chip Awards
Hiked 939 miles as a Pack from October to May

And we performed community service to the local Veterans Groups by helping place flags at gravesites,
Town wide cleanup days and made Blessing Bags of hygiene items for St. Vincent De Paul’s outreach center in Middletown.

If you think your child would benefit from being a Cub Scout in Pack 13 please hit the contact us section and drop us an email - let us know what grade your child will be in for fall and we can get in touch with you!!
